Emma Mattress Review

This Emma mattress review is done on Emma’s signature mattress. The Emma Original grabbed our attention as word got around this could be the best mattress in the UK. Please note this review is done on their most popular model theOriginalif you are looking for a hybrid take a scroll to our Emma Hybrid mattress review.

With Emma continuously growing and having sold a whopping 700,000 mattresses in just 5 years, they must be doing something right. Of course, we jumped at the opportunity to see if it lives up to the hype.

Let’s dive right into the Emma mattress review(SUMMARY AT THE END).

Details

Emma Mattress Construction

The Emma mattress has 3 distinct foam layers;top airgocell®layer, memory foamlayer and abase HRX polyfoamlayer. All of these foam layers have their own unique function, but how well do they work in harmony?

We will start off by mentioning that the mattress is proudlymade right here in the UKthat comply with strict testing to ensure they meet the highest of quality standards. Additionally, the Emma mattress complies with BS 7177 regulation, this means it is fire retardant and this is common throughout all mattresses available in the UK.

Emma Testing Facility

Not only does Emma use humans to test their mattresses but also high tech machines at their testing facility. This machine is testing motion isolation. Where pressure is exerted onto an area of the mattress and if only that area sinks and the rest of the mattress remains still then the mattress has great motion isolation properties.

The durability test uses heavy barrels that are continuously rolled along the mattress in order to simulate years of use.

Emma is an excellent example of a bed-in-a-box brand that is always testing their ideas and pushing boundaries to ensure only a great mattress leaves their facilities.

Emma Mattress Cover

The top cover and side cover is made of 100% polyester. Polyester isvery durableandhydrophobicwhich means it dries very quickly. Emma has used hollow polyester fibres which regulates humidity very effectively. The grey underside is made of 87% polyester and 13% polypropylene which makes it extra resistant to abrasion. The 3d-mesh texture supports air circulation hasnon slip properties.

The Emma mattress coverincludes 4 handles, many of the mattresses we have reviewed don’t have handles for easy manoeuvring so this is a plus. A mattress with handles gives it a thumbs up from us when it comes to practicality.

The cover is also removable andmachine washableat 40 degrees Celsius, which is also not too common in the UK online mattress industry. We would however still always recommend a mattress protector that way you protect your mattress, in the long run, the Emma mattress protector is a graet place to start.

Emma Mattress Foam Layers

1. Top Comfort Layer (3cm)

The comfort layer is built from Emma’s own trademarkedAirgocell® foam. In simple terms, it’s foam with more air pores than your traditional polyurethane foam which works toreduce heatthroughout the night.

Additionally, this layer has quick pressure responsiveness toconform to your body’s movements. The intent behind the foam structure is to give you a cool, soft cloud-like feeling. Yet still allowing the other two layers to provide support and pressure relief.

2. Middle Memory Foam Layer (2cm)

Unlike the top layer, this intermediate layer has slow responsiveness. Thisdistributes the pressureequally to contour your body. This visco-elastic memory foam layer purpose is to provide relief especially for those with back problems. Memory foam has a reputation of causing overheating during the night but its positioning under the top cooling layer helps to reduce this.

The memory foam is also a great transition layer balancing the support from beneath with the softness from the above layer, thus allowing your body to smoothly feel the benefits from all the layers.

3. Supportive Base Layer (19cm)

A good mattress always has a firm and sturdy foundation, the base layer supports you where it matters. The HRX cold foam base layer hasshoulder and hip zoning. This sounds fancy but it is just cut out channels in the foam (also called castellated). The zoning is positioned at your hips and shoulder areas are to allow for more give/sinkage to ensure the bestspinal alignment possible.

How Thick Is the Emma Mattress?

In total, themattress is 25cm thickso your bed sheets will fit. It is also worth mentioning that the mattress can hold up to amaximum of 20 stonesor130 kg per person. If you need a mattress that can hold even more weight, we recommend you head over to our Nectar mattress review.

Emma Mattress Firmness

From this Emma mattress review, we have given it a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale. This range works best for couples with differing sleeping preferences as it’s more versatile. Again, spinal alignment and even weight distribution are best maintained on a medium firmness level mattress, and a pillow such as the Emma pillow could also aid with this.

Emma’s thinking behind targeting a medium feel mattress is to reach a vast majority of the UK’s sleeping needs. We recommend giving it a few days to adjust to your body in order to feel the full pressure-relieving benefits.

Aesthetics and Design

There seems to be a trend among all the online mattresses in the UK, they are all blue, white and grey. The colours are practical, grey underneath and a clean white on top.

What we do particularly like is theblue zipthat runs along the sides of the mattress. Although it’s nice to know you have a great looking mattress, this should not be the main deciding factor as most of the time a bed sheet will be placed over.

Emma Mattress Trial and Warranty

The Emma mattress comes with a100-night risk-free trialwhich allows anyone to return it within that time frame and receive afull refund. No questions asked, yes you read correctly! Simply contact customer service and they will handle the rest.

The idea behind it is to allow anyone to actually try the mattress in thecomfort of your own hometo get a true feeling if this mattress is best for them. The returned mattresses are eitherrecycledorgiven to charitieslike the British Red Cross and Debra.

The mattress also comes with a10-year warrantyon dimensional stability and durability of the core materials. This ensures safety in the long run.
