Casper mattress has been acquired by nearly half a million people. The bed mattress is particularly known for its engineering task, for causing a feeling of weightlessness, for helping with breathability regardless of being a memory foam bed mattress and hence being a tad more comfortable than some comparable mattresses that tend to get rather hot and uneasy through the night, particularly throughout summertime and damp seasons. Casper bed mattress includes a hundred night trial complimentary returns. You can acquire the bed mattress online or at a store and you would get same day white glove shipment in a couple of locations.

Features of Casper Mattress

The flagship product of the company has a layer of memory foam and a layer of poly foam atop it. The leading layer is springy to ensure a sense of balance and convenience. It also contributes to the sensation of weightlessness when you put down. The foams are breathable owing to the open cells in the top layer so you would not feel too hot or uneasy. Sweating is not an issue with Casper mattress. It includes a zip-off knit cover that is quite easy to clean and maintain, for this reason guaranteeing sturdiness. The bounce is not the very best amongst memory foam bed mattress as Casper is a little bit more resistant but sleepers will feel some reasonable bounce, which is quite preferable and offers remedy for pressure. The density of the memory foam is high enough to supply appropriate assistance to the different pressure points in the human body. There is a shift layer that distributes your bodyweight equally. The base layer in addition to the 3 other layers is strong enough to supply steady support and they contribute to the sturdiness of the entire Casper mattress.

The open cell responsive memory foam has an adaptive capability and it also supports transition as you move from one position to another shifting your bodyweight. The Casper mattress comes in six sizes. Twin is 39″ x 75″ x 10″ and weighs 44 lbs. Twin XL is 39″ x 80″ x 10″ and weighs 46 lbs. Full is 54″ x 75″ x 10″ and weighs 60 lbs. Queen is 60″ x 80″ x 10″ and weighs 71 lbs. King is 76″ x 80″ x 10″ and weighs 91 lbs. CAL King is 72″ x 84″ x 10″ and weighs 90 lbs. All Casper mattresses are designed and assembled in the United States. The foams used in Casper mattresses have Certi-Pur certification. The certification implies the foams were made without any chemicals that cause ozone depletion. The materials are also regulated according to the volatile organic compound emissions standards for quality of indoor air as stipulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Casper mattress comes with 10 years limited warranty. There is free shipping & free returns in the United States and Canada. Shipments are via UPS Standard in the US and Canada. Shipping takes three to five business days depending on the location. Same day delivery is available in parts of Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York City.

Casper Mattress Price

Casper mattress price starts from $550, which is the cost of the Twin size. Twin XL would cost $600, Full is $800, Queen is $950, King is $1,150 and CAL King is also $1,150. Nectar Mattress is Superior to Casper Mattress

Nectar and Casper mattresses are both foam mattresses. Both use memory foam but where Casper mattress has one layer of memory foam and one layer of poly foam, Nectar mattress has two layers of memory foam. Casper mattress has four layers while Nectar mattress has five layers. Casper mattress is thinner than Nectar mattress by one and a half inches. Nectar mattress allows your body to sink a bit more than Casper mattress, which is preferred by many as the bodyweight gets distributed all the more evenly and weightlessness is more than just a perception. While both mattresses can isolate motion and are durable, Nectar mattress is considerably cheaper. A queen size Nectar mattress will cost you $795 and that is without any discount. You can easily find a coupon or some discount that will bring down the price by more than $100. Considering the differences, Nectar mattress is clearly superior and it is what you should consider.

We no longer have to drive to a well-lit department store to spend hours laying down on mattresses just to get one we will like.

The explosion of online mattress startups means we can try out beds in the comfort of our home, without a hovering attendant, and skip the prices that accompany brick-and-mortar stores. What used to be the tedious commitment of an afternoon has been simplified to a click.

Sounds good, right?

And it is, except for the inevitable challenges of a faceless, vast online marketplace where every mattress looks the same. Products are cheaper, better, and more convenient — but it can be impossible to distinguish what does what. The hours we would have spent dutifully laying down on one mattress and then another in a showroom can soon become hours of granular internet research — reviews, comparisons, etc.

Keeping that in mind, we aimed to slim down the comparison process for you. Below are the nine most popular online mattress startups and a cheat sheet of what they’re each good at, so you’ll save time and still get the bed of your sweet dreams.

For all nine mattress startups below, you’ll find they all offer:

Casper Mattress Overview

Casper is a well-known U.S.-based mattress and bedding accessory company in business since 2014. At this time, Casper offers five different mattress models. This review will focus on the Casper Mattress, also known as the Casper or the Casper Original, which is the brand’s flagship model.

The Casper is a mixed-foam mattress made with comfort layers of polyfoam and memory foam. Other features include a polyfoam transitional layer for added cushioning, a 7.5-inch support core of high-density polyfoam, and a removable and washable polyester cover. Altogether, the bed measures 12 inches thick. The Casper is considered a 5 on the 1-10 firmness scale, indicating a medium feel that balances gentle body conforming and even support.

This review will take an in-depth look at the Casper in terms of construction, cost, and performance. We’ll also compare the mattress to other leading models and provide an overview of the company’s shipping, return, and warranty policies.

Please note:Casper recently introduced the Casper Hybrid, a version of the Casper Original that replaces the high-density foam with pocketed coils. These two models share a product page on Casper’s website, but this review will focus solely on the all-foam Casper Original. For more information about the hybrid model, please check out our Casper Hybrid Mattress Review.

Recommended for.

  • Sleepers who prefer a balance of contouring and support. The Casper provides close body-conforming to alleviate pressure in sensitive areas, but the mattress has a more supportive feel than other all-foam beds.
  • People who weigh 230 pounds or less.Due to its moderate firmness and close conforming, we recommend the mattress to lightweight and average weight individuals.
  • Couples. The mattress isolates motion transfer very well and is virtually silent when bearing weight, making it optimal for people who awaken easily due to nighttime noises or their sleep partner’s movements.
  • Those who normally sleep hot in foam beds. The Casper’s comfort foams absorb some body heat, but overall the mattress sleeps cooler than many competing all-foam models.

Not Recommended for.

  • Sleepers who prefer very responsive mattresses. The Casper has slightly more responsiveness than most competing all-foam models, but it lacks the distinct bounce of innerspring and hybrid mattresses.
  • People who weigh more than 230 pounds.Heavier individuals may find the Casper too soft and prone to sinking, which can lead to added pressure throughout the body.

Tuck’s Video Review

Ratings Summary

Tuck’s testing team conducted an extensive evaluation of the Casper. Our review and rating process consists of three parts: in-house evaluation, external sleep testing, and data collection of verified owner experiences. To learn more about our review process, read our methodology here.

Our performance criteria and ratings for the bed are listed in the table below.

Edge Support

The degree to which the perimeter of the mattress supports body weight. In some cases, mattresses may sink when weight is applied. This sinkage, often called “roll-off”, affects how closely you might sleep to the edge of the bed.

The Casper offers good edge support due to its thicker support core, but some sinkage around the perimeter is likely over time.

Mattresses that are bouncier and more responsive tend to be better for sex, as they’re easier to change positions on. In contrast, unresponsive mattresses can cause couples to have trouble switching positions.

Our testing indicates that The Casper isn’t particularly responsive or bouncy, given it’s construction. This may make is insufficiently bouncy for some couples, but this is on par with other mixed-foam beds.

How Is the Casper Mattress Constructed?

Cover

The top panel of the Casper’s cover is made of 100-percent polyester. The bottom and side panels are a polyester-spandex blend, giving the cover a very stretchy feel.

The cover can be unzipped and removed for cleaning. Casper recommends spot-cleaning with mild detergent, then air-drying. Mattress owners can contact Casper if a replacement cover is needed.

Comfort Layers

The Casper is constructed with two comfort layers. The top 1.5-inch layer is standard polyfoam, which is more responsive than memory foam. This gives the Casper a light bounce.

The second 1.5-inch comfort layer is made of 4 PCF memory foam, which is considered low- to medium-density. This material is fairly soft. Combined with the more top polyfoam layer, the bed’s comfort system provides an even balance of body-contouring, pressure relief, and support.

Transitional Layer

A 1.5-inch layer of 2.5 PCF polyfoam is located between the comfort materials and the support core. This transitional layer serves as a buffer for sleepers that prevents them from sinking through to the denser base layer.

The transitional material is zoned, meaning it feels firmer beneath the shoulders and hips while cradling the back, legs, and other lighter areas of the body. This helps maintain even support for sleepers and prevents pressure from building up.

Support Layers

The Casper’s support core contains 7.5 inches of 1.8 PCF high-density polyfoam. This dense material stabilizes the bed and prevents the softer comfort and transitional layers from sagging too much. The support core also reinforces the perimeter, which protects the edges from sinkage in places where owners sit when getting in and out of bed.

Mattress Height

The Casper measures 12 inches thick, making the mattress fairly thick compared to other mixed-foam and memory foam beds. Its base polyfoam layer is also thicker-than-average, resulting in strong overall support for sleepers, while the deep comfort layers offer ample cushioning and body-conforming.

What Are the Firmness and Feel Like?

The Casper has a medium (5) feel. Memory foam beds with the same firmness level often conform to the body very closely and provide less-than-ideal support. Since the Casper places a layer of polyfoam over its memory foam layer, the mattress feels more supportive as it cushions the body.

That said, the Casper’s medium feel is best suited to sleepers in the lightweight and average weight groups. Heavier individuals may experience excessive sagging, particularly around the shoulders and hips. This can lead to added pressure, and also interfere with spinal alignment.

For a more detailed breakdown, check out our sleeper ratings below.

Ratings Breakdown

Performance Ratings

Now, let’s look at our performance ratings for the Casper. These ratings are based on findings from our in-house testing crew, feedback from external sleep testers, and verified owner experiences.

Durability

The Casper has been available for purchase since 2014, giving us some time to test the mattress for durability. However, we have not yet been able to evaluate how the bed performs across the average mattress lifespan of six to eight years. Our durability rating for the Casper is based on its materials and quality of construction, owner experiences, and Casper’s reputation.

The Casper has an expected lifespan of about seven years, which is above-average for an all-foam bed. Most all-foam beds develop body impressions from sleepers over time, and these can affect how comfortable and supportive the mattress feels. The Casper’s more supportive structure makes it less susceptible to impressions, though they will likely begin to appear as the mattress nears the end of its lifespan.

The support core also plays a role in longevity. The bed’s high-density base foam measures 7.5 inches, which is fairly thick for the support layer of an all-foam bed. Generally, thicker support cores provide better stability than thinner base layers.

Owners can further protect their Casper from developing body impressions by rotating the mattress head-to-foot every three to six months.

Motion Isolation

To test motion isolation, we asked two testers to lie down on the Casper at the same time and feel for movement across the surface. Even when one of the testers got into and out of bed, neither person noticed any transfer whatsoever. These findings are consistent with feedback from our external sleep testers, including those who evaluated the mattress with sleep partners.

Most all-foam mattresses provide superior motion isolation compared to other bed types. The foam absorbs and minimizes transfer much better than latex, and the mattresses don’t have the coil support cores that give innerspring and hybrid models their signature bounce. Even compared to other all-foam mattresses, the Casper offers excellent motion isolation. This is definitely a key strength of the bed.

Off-Gassing

When unpacking the Casper, our testers noticed moderate off-gassing smells. They tested the mattress a few days later and could still detect some odor. We don’t believe excessive long-term off-gassing will be a major issue for most owners, but those who are sensitive to smell may notice odor for some time after the mattress is unboxed.

Off-gassing commonly occurs with new mattresses, particularly those with polyfoam and/or memory foam layers. Unpacking these beds releases volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are generally harmless but carry a noticeable odor many people liken to rubber or plastic. Smells typically dissipate in a matter of days, if not sooner, but some beds carry more persistent odors.

Pressure Relief

Testers in different weight groups evaluated the Casper for pressure relief by lying on a sensory pad on top of the mattress, which measures pressure build-up in different areas of the body. They also checked to see if pressure increased or decreased after changing sleep positions.

Overall, our testing shows the Casper provides good pressure relief for lightweight and average weight sleepers. Our heavyweight testers found that the mattress sagged a bit, especially around the shoulders and hips, which led to added pressure. This is primarily due to the Casper’s medium feel, as heavier individuals tend to find firmer beds more supportive.

Temperature Neutrality

All of our sleep testers found that the Casper offers good temperature neutrality. The comfort layers absorb some body heat, but overall the mattress sleeps noticeably cooler than competing foam models. This can be attributed to above-average breathability in the top comfort layer.

All-foam mattresses tend to sleep hotter than innerspring or hybrid models because of differences in support core construction. Coil layers allow air to circulate, which helps cool off the interior of the bed and maintain a comfortable sleep temperature. Solid-foam base layers do not promote nearly as much airflow and tend to trap heat as a result, but all-foam beds can offset this issue by using more breathable foams and cover materials.

Edge Support

To test edge support, we asked people in different weight groups to sit along the perimeter of the Casper and feel for sinkage beneath their bodies. Like most all-foam beds, the Casper does sink a bit. However, its thicker-than-average support core reinforces the edges fairly well compared to its competitors.

We also asked our testers to lie down next to the edge of the Casper to see if they experienced feelings of “roll-off.” They found the perimeter fairly stable, although lightweight and average weight testers felt more comfortable about roll-off than heavier testers.

Noise

During our assessment, the testers noted that the Casper does not produce any noise when bearing weight. This characteristic, coupled with the bed’s excellent motion isolation, makes the Casper a great choice for people who are easily disrupted by their sleep partner’s movements during the night.

Casper’s lack of noise is to be expected. Most all-foam and all-latex beds are virtually silent. They lack the internal components normally associated with disruptive noises, such as squeaky coils found in innersprings and hybrids, or motorized chambers in airbeds.

Like many all-foam and memory foam beds, the Casper conforms closely to sleepers. This causes couples to sink too deeply into the surface, which inhibits movements and makes changing positions more difficult. On the other hand, deep sinking does provide better traction.

Many all-foam beds respond slowly as they conform to sleepers, which makes the surface less springy and not as conducive for sex. Bouncier beds, such as hybrids and innersprings, tend to be better for couples. The Casper has a slight edge in this category due to its moderate bounce, but some couples find it lacks the right level of responsiveness.

Sleeper Ratings

The ideal firmness and thickness settings for a mattress largely depend on a sleeper’s body weight, shape, and preferred sleep position. In order to better inform our readers and avoid subjectivity in our review, the Tuck team evaluated the bed with sleep testers of varying body types and position preferences.

Lightweight Sleepers – Less than 130 lbs.

Our lightweight testers found the Casper very comfortable and supportive. Side sleepers experienced full spinal alignment thanks to sufficient cushioning beneath their shoulders and hips, resulting in consistent pressure relief. Back- and stomach-sleepers weighing less than 130 pounds also enjoyed the mattress because of its above-average support.

Generally, lightweight sleepers prefer soft to medium surfaces because they contour to the body, alleviate pressure, and help align the spine. These sleepers do not sink as deeply into firmer beds and often experience added pressure.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 to 230 lbs.

Like our lightweight testers, average weight sleepers also found the Casper comfortable. This was particularly true for our average weight side sleepers, who experienced a comfortable balance of contouring pressure relief and even support. The back- and stomach-sleepers weighing 130 to 230 pounds also enjoyed the mattress, but did feel some added pressure in the shoulders and hips.

Mid-level firmness is often ideal for average weight sleepers. The bed doesn’t sink too deeply beneath their bodies, but the comfort layers conform and align the spine to a pressure-relieving extent.

Heavyweight Sleepers – More than 230 lbs.

According to our heavyweight testers, the Casper was too soft and did not provide enough support for their bodies. The back- and stomach-sleepers experienced the most added pressure. Side-sleepers weighing more than 230 pounds found the Casper a bit more comfortable, but they also felt some pressure in the hips and shoulders.

Heavier individuals tend to prefer medium-firm to firm mattresses because they offer an even plane for sleeping. Softer mattresses often sink too much, which compromises support and may lead to discomfort.

How Does the Casper Mattress Compare to Other Beds?

We urge all mattress shoppers to compare multiple brands and models before deciding which bed is best for them. Next, we’ll see how the Casper Mattress stacks up against other Casper models and some similar mattresses from competing brands.

Casper vs. Casper Hybrid

In 2019, Casper introduced the Casper Hybrid, a new design based on the original Casper model. Both the Casper and the Casper Hybrid share the same materials in the comfort and transitional layers. Additionally, each bed has a 12-inch profile and a medium feel, though the Casper Hybrid is slightly firmer.

Support core construction is the key difference between these two beds. The Casper Hybrid – like other hybrid models – has a support layer composed of pocketed coils. A high-density polyfoam encasement around the coils adds extra reinforcement to the perimeter. The coils circulate more air than the Casper’s polyfoam support core, giving the hybrid better temperature neutrality, while the encasement offers improved edge support over the original. At the same time, the Casper provides better motion isolation and alleviates more pressure for sleepers under 230 pounds.

The Casper Hybrid is more expensive than the Casper, but still costs much less than the average model. Before choosing one model over the other, sleepers should determine which they prefer: the pressure-relieving cradle of an all-foam bed, or the responsive surface and cooler temperature of a hybrid.

Casper vs. Casper Wave

The Casper Wave is constructed with three comfort materials – polyfoam, latex, and memory foam – along with denser polyfoam in the transitional and support layers. The result is a medium-soft feel that creates a deeper pressure-relieving cradle compared to the Casper.

The Casper’s polyfoam support core reinforces the mattress much better than the Wave’s, which measures 5.5 inches thick. As a result, the Casper offers a more comfortable feel for back- and stomach-sleepers. The Wave also absorbs a bit more body heat, causing it to sleep warmer than the Casper. However, both mattresses offer excellent motion isolation.

The Wave is considerably more expensive than the Casper. This will likely be a deciding factor for some shoppers, and both beds perform comparably in many areas. Those who are willing to spend extra for a more body-cradling feel should consider the Wave, but the Casper offers better overall value between the two models.

Casper vs. Casper Wave Hybrid

Like the Casper Hybrid, the Casper Wave Hybrid is a newer hybrid version of the preexisting Wave model. The Wave Hybrid shares its predecessor’s comfort layers, but adds a transitional layer of gel-infused polyfoam and swaps the old support core with foam-encased pocketed coils.

The Wave Hybrid has a medium-soft feel, but its pocketed coils also make the surface fairly responsive. The result is a good balance of conforming and support, similar to the Casper’s – though the Wave Hybrid has more bounce. The coils also promote steady airflow to give the hybrid very good temperature neutrality, while the high-density perimeter foam prevents the edges from sinking too much. The Casper performs better in other areas, including motion isolation, pressure relief, and noise potential.

Ultimately, most buyers will choose the Casper or the Wave Hybrid based on price-point. The Wave Hybrid is Casper’s most expensive mattress and costs more than twice as much as the Casper. The hybrid’s luxurious feel may entice some shoppers with bigger budget, but the Casper offers more value for sleepers.

Casper vs. Casper Essential

The Casper Essential is constructed with a polyfoam comfort layer, memory foam transitional layer, and high-density polyfoam support core. Similar to the Casper, the Essential measures 11 inches thick and has a medium-firm (6) feel. The Casper and the Essential share other key qualities, as well. Both beds isolate motion transfer very well and produce virtually no noise, making either a good choice for couples.

However, they are very different in several ways. Although the Essential is firmer, the Casper’s much thicker support core ensures better overall support for sleepers across all weight groups. The Casper’s softer comfort materials also provide a more comfortable surface for lighter individuals, side-sleepers, and people with pressure-point issues.

The Essential has a much lower price-point than the Casper, and this may be a deciding factor for some. However, the Casper outperforms the Essential in most key areas.

Casper vs. Purple

Like the Casper, the Purple was one of the pioneering bed-in-a-box mattress models. Both models isolate motion transfer very well, and their price-points are comparable, but apart from these similarities the mattresses are very different.

The Purple features the Smart Grid comfort layer, which is composed of a signature elastic polymer material. The Smart Grid contours to the body like memory foam, but is also more responsive and sleeps exceptionally cool. The Casper has a softer feel thanks to its polyfoam and memory foam layers. The Purple’s support core is also 3.5 inches shorter than the Casper’s, giving the latter much better overall support.

The Casper and Purple have comparable price-points. Hot sleepers may want to consider the Purple, while those seeking a more supportive mattress should opt for the Casper. To learn more, check out our Casper vs. Purple Mattress Comparison.

Casper vs Tuft & Needle

The T&N Mattress from Tuft & Needle is an all-polyfoam mattress built with a graphite-infused comfort layer and a 7-inch, high-density support core. Like the Casper, the T&N Mattress offers better support than most all-foam models due to its thick base layer. Both beds also offer a good balance of cushioning and support thanks to their polyfoam top layers.

The T&N Mattress is slightly firmer, and considered a medium-firm (6.5). This makes it more suitable for average weight and heavyweight sleepers, while it may be a bit too firm for those who weigh less than 130 pounds. The Casper provides a more mid-level feel, though it feels less supportive for heavier ones.

The T&N Mattress has a lower price-point than the Casper, but neither is considered overly expensive. Shoppers should base their decision between these two beds on firmness preference, as well as their own body type.
