Waterproof mattress covers keep spills and leaks away from your bed, but they’re not impervious to getting dirty. Regularly wash your mattress cover to get rid of dirt and odor. Most waterproof covers have a cloth top and vinyl backing, so they’re typically safe to clean in the washing machine.

Waterproof Mattress Cover Care

Launder your waterproof mattress cover in the washing machine in cold or warm water, on a gentle or delicate setting. Use a bleach-free laundry detergent — bleach can damage the waterproof backing of some covers. After washing, tumble-dry the cover on a low-heat setting. It’s safe to dry the cover with other items, such as sheets or clothing. Don’t use high heat; doing so damages the vinyl. Do not iron the cover or have it dry cleaned. If your waterproof mattress cover is new, wash it before using it for the first time. Laundering helps remove packaging odors and softens the cover.

Product Care

All of our products are easy to care for and virtually maintenance-free.

If you have questions about your Tempur-Pedic product not covered here, please contact us.

Electric blankets or heating pads

We do not recommend using an electric blanket or heating pad with your mattress. Due to the temperature-sensitivity of the TEMPUR material, adding high heat can hinder its ability to react to your body temperature and conform to your body shape.

If you ever do use an electric blanket or heating pad, we recommend limiting its use to 30 minutes, and only on low or medium heat.

Mattress pads and covers

We do not recommend using a conventional mattress pad or mattress cover with your mattress. These items add another “layer” between you and the TEMPUR material, reducing its ability to conform to your body.

If you use a mattress protector, we offer the MattressProtector by Tempur-Pedic™, which was designed to protect your mattress without impacting the feel or performance.

Cleaning the cover

The covers on most of our mattresses can be removed and washed. If you’re not sure if your mattress cover is removable, please refer to the tags sewn into the cover or contact our Customer Service department.

About washing the cover

We recommend a cold temperature setting for machine washing and a cool setting for machine drying. Air-drying is best. Do not “over-dry” the cover and do not use chlorine products or harsh stain removers of any kind.

Cleaning spills

If you spill liquid on your mattress, please take the following steps. Because the mattress should never become wet, we can’t promise that these steps will completely remove the stain or odor.

If your mattress has a cover, remove it, wash it in cold water with mild detergent, and hang dry for best results. Never use bleach or bleaching products with the cover.

After the cover has been removed, soak up as much of the liquid using towels as possible. This may require pressing down on the material with the towel(s) to release the moisture.

Once excess moisture is removed, let the mattress air dry. To speed up the drying process, place a fan so that it blows on the mattress.

Never wash the TEMPUR® material.

TEMPUR® material should never become wet. We offer a special wet-safe cover to provide extra protection against liquid spills.

Do NOT wash or Dry Clean the TEMPUR-Topper Supreme. The cover can be removed and washed in cold water, dried on a cool setting or air drying which is recommended. Do not use chlorine products or harsh stain removers.

Flipping and rotating

Each of our mattresses use our patented, one-sided design that means you’ll never have to flip, rotate, or turn it. The TEMPUR material will return to its original shape time after time, year after year.

Transporting or storing

When transporting or storing your mattress, lay the mattress flat—not on its side or folded.

Folding during moving

Only if absolutely needed, you can fold your Tempur-Pedic mattress to make it easier to move. Fold it with the TEMPUR® side (top) in. We do not recommend to leave it in this position for long periods of time.

About folding and cold weather

If the mattress sits in cold weather (below 50°F) folded, do not try to force it to lay flat. It may take a few hours, depending on the temperature of the room, but the mattress will naturally unfold as it warms up.

Using the mattress handles

The handles included on some Tempur-Pedic mattresses are for positioning purposes only—not for carrying.

Electric blankets or heating pads

We do not recommend using an electric blanket or heating pad with your pillow or cushion. Due to the temperature-sensitivity of the TEMPUR material, adding high heat can hinder its ability to react to your body temperature and conform to your body shape.

If you ever do use an electric blanket or heating pad, we recommend limiting its use to 30 minutes, and only on low or medium heat.

Keeping pillows fresh

You should never wash TEMPUR material, but you can follow this simple process to allow the material to breathe and absorb fresh air:

Remove the pillowcase and cover and roll the pillow (like a sleeping bag) then unroll

Repeat this procedure, rolling in the opposite direction

Cleaning the cover

The covers on most of our pillows and cushions can be removed and washed. If you’re not sure if your pillow or cushion cover is removable, please refer to the tags sewn into the cover or contact our Customer Service department.

About washing the cover

We recommend a cold temperature setting for machine washing and a cool setting for machine drying. Air-drying is best. Do not “over-dry” the cover and do not use chlorine products or harsh stain removers of any kind.

About the GrandPillow

The cover for The GrandPillow is dry clean only.

Electric blankets or heating pads

We do not recommend using an electric blanket or heating pad with your mattress topper. Due to the temperature-sensitivity of the TEMPUR material, adding high heat can hinder its ability to react to your body temperature and conform to your body shape.

If you ever do use an electric blanket or heating pad, we recommend limiting its use to 30 minutes, and only on low or medium heat.

Cleaning the cover

The covers on most of our mattress toppers can be removed and washed. If you’re not sure if your mattress topper cover is removable, please refer to the tags sewn into the cover or contact our Customer Service department.

How to Clean a Tempur Pedic Mattress

Updated: September 6, 2019

Cleaning your Tempur Pedic mattress is easy. If you spill something on the mattress, you simply soak up the liquid with towels and allow the mattress to dry completely. If you want to clean or freshen up your entire mattress, you can do so by sprinkling the surface with baking soda and then vacuuming it up. Avoid getting your mattress wet, though, or using any cleaning chemicals on it. Make sure you always use a mattress cover to protect your Tempur Pedic mattress from spills and excess moisture.

The purchase of a Tempur-Pedic bed is investment for your health and good sleeping habits. It makes sense to take every precaution to make sure the materials that make it unique last as long as possible.

The removable Tempur-Pedic mattress cover is antimicrobial and therefore requires more delicate handling than your average bed cover. Proper care can ensure your mattress cover lasts as long as you need it to.

Completely unzip the top portion of the mattress cover. The non-slip bottom portion should remain under the mattress and should not be washed.

Prep the washing machine by putting it on the gentle cycle and allowing it to fill with cool water. If washing by hand, fill your washing container with clean, cool water.

Add a mild or gentle detergent according to box’s instructions for a small load and run the delicate/gentle cycle on the washer or gently wash by hand.

Tumble dry the cover on low and remove it while it is still damp. Allow the cover to air dry for the final stage. Or, hang the cover up and allow it to air dry for the full amount of time.
