Simmons Beautyrest Reviews

The Simmons Beautyrest is one of the more popular mattress lines, and also notoriously difficult to navigate. Not only are there a number of different Beautyrest models, there are variations within each model to suit different sleeper preferences.

Then finally, you have different outlets that name the same mattress different models for their stores. If you’re confused, mission accomplished, that’s what they wanted! I’ll help you navigate Simmons Beautyrest and other brands to help you find the mattress that best suits your needs.

If you are looking for an online brand that is comparable in feel to some of the better Beautyrest models, I would suggest you take a look at WinkBeds and my WinkBeds vs. Beautyrest Black comparison

Simmons Beautyrest comes in six main lines:

  • Beautyrest Recharge
  • Beautyrest Recharge World Class
  • Beautyrest Recharge Hybrid
  • Beautyrest Black
  • Beautyrest Recharge Memory Foam Plus
  • Beautyrest Comforpedic and Comforpedic IQ (currently discontinued)

Overall people generally like the Beautyrest line – it’s definitely the best line out of Simmons. Most frequent qualms are price and long-term durability. Some quick info to get you started:

  • If you’reon a budget, start with theBeautyrest Recharge
  • If you likememory foam,go straight to theRecharge Memory Foam Plus
  • If you’re after aluxury spring, check outBeautyrest Black
  • If you want acombination of all the options, go to theRecharge Hybrid
  • If you have heard ofComforpedic, know that it’sdiscontinued. Closest thing would be theMemory Foam Plus

Below I’ll provide a quick overview of each of these Beautyrest categories and link to full reviews that provide a very in-depth look at each mattress and where you can find the best deal.
NOTE: different stores will carry the same mattress at very different prices, so make sure to read my in-depth analyses before you make a final purchase.

Beautyrest Recharge

The Recharge is definitely the cheapest of the Simmons Beautyrest, and thus naturally missing the additional features that the other Beautyrest models provide. Definitely the place to start if you’re on a budget. The mattress will vary slightly based on who’s selling it, but generally it will feature:

  • Pocket coils (around 800), which are good for support and motion transfer
  • Firm, Plush, Luxury Firm, and Pillow top (with option to combine pillow top and the other options)
  • Materials will vary, but often included is aircool foam, gel touch foam, and air cool memory foam. All of these foams aim to reduce heat, and will vary in effectiveness in that regard.

A queen mattress will be

$800, but know this price will vary greatly depending on the features included and the location where you purchase it.

Beautyrest Recharge World Class

The World Class is a step up from the standard Beautryrest Recharge, both in terms of a few features and of course the price. Assume all is generally the same as the standard recharge, except:

  • The number of pocket coils will increase, ranging from 850 to 2000 depending on the specific model. This means that you should have even better support and comfort, and further reduce motion transfer.
  • Foam will be aircool memory foam with micro gel touch, offering even better cooling, greater durability, and more comfort.

A queen will now cost you

$1100, with price again varying from this point based on features and where you purchase. You can definitely notice the increase in the coil count and memory foam, so if within your budget, this upgrade from the standard Beautyrest Recharge is worthwhile.

Beautyrest Hybrid

A true hybrid mattress is a mix of memory foam and coils (most often memory foam on top), which is exactly what we find in the Beautyrest Hybrid. You will note we mentioned a layer of foam in the Recharge models, however that’s really just a thin layer on top, where as with the Hybrid the amount of foam in the top layer is much more substantial. Things to note:

  • The Beautyrest Hybrid will have 1000 to 2000 coils
  • The mattress includes gel touch memory foam and micro-coils in the more expensive models
  • Lower end models have the aircool memory foam, higher end has micro diamond infused memory foam, both aiming to provide good comfort/support tradeoff and keep the mattress from sleeping hot

A queen will cost around $1300, with more variability than the others within the line (based on the coil range and type of foam used).

Beautyrest Black

The Beautyrest Black is the most talked about mattress from Simmons, definitely targeting the luxury market. Overall people tend to really like the mattress, but if you’re price sensitive it’s going to give you some serious sticker shock. What makes this mattress so fancy?

  • Very high quality coils– The mattress sports a triple braided Veriform pocketed coil system that pretty much eliminates motion transfer. These coils also last much longer than coils used in the other mattresses
  • Quality foam– either aircool memory foam, dynamic response memory foam, or micro diamond infused aircool memory foam

The price on the Beautyrest Black varies wildly based on the options, but don’t be surprised to drop a few thousand dollars at least.

Beautyrest Recharge Memory Foam Plus

The Beautyrest Recharge memory foam mattress is a high-end memory foam mattress rounding out the options for the Beautyrest line. The mattress focuses on giving the traditional memory-foam support and comfort while focusing on making it so that the mattress does not sleep hot. It includes:

  • Made with hundreds of foam cushions to offer personalized support
  • Made with premium foams (depending on model), including AirCool memory foam, Beauty Cloud memory foam, ContourFit memory foam, and Comfort Response latex

The Beautyrest Rechrage Memory Foam Plus ranges dramatically in price depending on options and features, but again expect to pay thousands of dollars if you’re interested.

Beautyrest Comforpedic/Comforpedic IQ

NOTE: The Comforpedic line was discontinued in early 2015, however many retailers are still carrying them until inventory expires. If you want a memory foam mattress from Beautyrest, I would recommend sticking with the Beautyrest Recharge Memory Foam Plus.

Final Recommendation

The Simmons Beautyrest line is obviously quite varied, and at this point includes most of Simmons’ most popular mattresses. Overall these are some quality mattresses, it will be interesting to see if the Beautyrest line can hold up against many of the new online mattress startups that are trying to match their quality and undercut their prices.

Costco’s Specifics

Costco is one of the most popular retailers because they promiselower prices for members on common goods. That said, not everything bought at Costco is a great deal. Even though things like toilet paper, paper towels, and bulk food products are better to buy in store, when it comes to mattresses, there is a little known truth:

Buying comparable products on sale in other retailers may actually be cheaper.

Although this isn’t the case for all products, there is a case for going direct to the manufacturer orhaggling with local retailerswho are willing to budge on price. Also, even though Costco often licenses their own designs for their members, a second hidden truth is:

The Costco selection may not include the right mattress for you.

Part of the reason for this is Costco is focused on the lowest common denominator when it selects its products, and possiblynot the unique individual comfort that you may actually need.

Mattress Brands

Costco has a few relationships with some nationally recognized mattress brands, such asTempur-Pedic,Sealy, andSimmons Beautyrest, but even though these are household names, they aren’t always the best for you. We’ll go throughthe mattress brands being sold at Costco and discuss which may be best.

Here they are ranked.

Ghostbed is a popularonline mattress brand that offers both all-foam and pocketed coil mattresses. With options that range from medium to medium-firm, they are ideal for those looking for universal comfort. With cooling layers on the surface of their mattresses and the addition of zoned support systems in their Flex and Matrix models, there is a lot to love about this brand. However,Costco does not offer some of their highest rated options sold direct.Additionally, there are some reports of a better sleep trial and customer service buying direct.

The pros:Well-rated brand with better rated pocketed coil options.

The cons: The newer products are only available direct through the brand currently.

Price Range: $495-$1825

Final Score:9.2 / 10

Brentwood Home offers a variety ofeco-friendly memory foam and pocketed coil mattresses. In terms of their directly sold offerings, they have begun only sellingcertified GREENGUARD Gold mattresses, which is one of the most rigorous emissions and low-VOC standards and a great innovation for their products. However, at Costco, there are some differences with what can be purchased versus buying direct. Costco stocks some lower priced and in some cases, older models that may or may not be as rigorously certified. While most customers like these offerings, there were some differences in customer feedback with some customers having issues with durability.

The pros:Good deals for the brand found at Costco.

The cons:Some lower priced models sold at Costco have lower ratings than those sold direct.

Price Range: $399-$3299

Final Score:8.9 / 10

Tempur-Pedic is one of the most common household names when it comes tomemory foam mattresses. Although the selection is not as wide at the Costco warehouse stores as in other locations, Tempur-Pedic is synonymous withhigh end foams for a high end price. Although some folks are heartset on owning a Tempur-Pedic, there are plenty of less costly options that you can buy direct: such as our top memory foam mattresses. With that said, Tempur-Pedic is still a good brand with a good reputation.

The pros:Good range of memory foam products for acompetitive price point vs other retailers.

The consare that the selection is not as wide andthere are no Twin or Full versions at Costco.

I waited over a year to write this review, as it took quite awhile for me to adjust to this mattress. I am a problem sleeper, having suffered from insomnia most of my adult life and also have lower back issues (I’m 62, 6′ and athletic 195#). This is my third mattress in 5 years. It has proved to be the best one for me. It is very solid, firm bed but with enough cushion to keep you comfortable. You do not sink in as with memory foam. I can sleep in all positions with no issues whatsoever. It has held up well thus far; no indentations or edge breakdown. The only problem is that when I travel, no mattress is as firm or comfortable to me as the Novaform. Thank you COSTCO!

We needed a new mattress, so I researched them starting with Consumer Reports, which rated this their top foam mattress. This is our first foam, so I really didn’t know what to expect. Also, we have never purchased a mattress without first trying it out in a store. It arrived quickly and was fascinating watching it expand after to cut the plastic off it. I have to say that it’s harder than I expected, but I am getting used to it after two weeks. My wife, who sleeps on her back, is sleeping noticeable better. There’s also no movement transferred to the other person, which is a good thing. Neither of us noticed any unpleasant smell as some have reported.

In the interests of full disclosure, our previous mattress cost $300 new. So maybe we’re just easy to please, but we absolutely love this mattress. It’s firm, but not too firm. It’s great for back and side sleeping. I am pregnant and finicky about sleeping, but I’ve been very comfortable. I was (before the pregnancy) 5"4 and 130-ish lbs. My partner, who is 6’2 and 225-ish lbs, also finds it very comfortable.

My wife is a stomach sleeper and i am a back and side sleeper. i’ve owned this medium to firm mattress for 11 months now so i got a good hang of it. I wake up with joint pain, lower back pain, shoulder pain and toss and turn all night. the mattress has good construction and build quality. my wife complains less then i do because this mattress suits her better. however, my inlaws who bought the same mattress have similar complaints to mine. I am thinking of replacing this king mattress with two twin xl mattresses so my wife and i can individually pick the right firmness without breaking the bank on a sleep number bed.

We were amazed at how small it gets compacted down to for shipping. As soon as we opened the box and cut the straps it unfolded into a king sized mattress right before our eyes. I feel that it is a medium firmness despite some others saying it was harder. If you had a spring mattress before then you might not be used to the way a foam mattress feels when you first get on it. With a spring mattress you do bounce a bit. With the foam it seems to just dull any kind of bounce but then it envelopes around you. I am a side sleeper and this has been a great for that. I can’t say there were any miracle sleeping improvements but it is very comfortable and I am satisfied with my purchase.

I was a little hesitant about buying a mattress online without ever trying it but I am so glad that I did. After reading Consumer Reports reviews on this mattress and with the great return policy that Costco offers, we decided to take a chance and I am so glad that we did. This is by far the most comfortable mattress I have ever owned. It was comfortable from day one and have never slept better. No more waking up with a stiff back or neck. Can’t recommend this mattress enough. Love it so much that we will be buying a second one for my son. Thank you Costco and Novaform!!

I bought the previous model of this Serafina mattress two years ago and really liked it. Then we bought this model. (I think this model has a different top to it). Nevertheless, I absolutely LOVE this bed, especially for the money you pay. We also have a $3,000 Tempurpedic and a top-rated Sleep Number, so we are in a position to compare. This bed beats them all hands down. I wake up each morning refreshed — no turning through the night. That new top really works, I’d say. With that, I am a side sleeper with a little stomach sleeping. So if that is you, I’d highly recommend this mattress.

This mattress has very good support for both side and back sleepers. I sleep like a rotisserie turning all night long and this mattress provided good support and kept my back aligned in all positions. But it retains your body heat and it gets hotter and hotter throughout the night making it very uncomfortable. I found myself moving from one spot to another to keep comfortable. I tried various mattress pads but nothing alleviated the body heat it retains and gives back (without a pad was the worst). As the summer nights got warmer the resonating heat has become unbearable. The gel beads are supposed to provide "ideal sleep temperature" but it seem to be just marketing talk.

I did my research and read all the reviews. Most sounded good and that we would give this one a try. We are in our 60’s and have been sleeping on a memory foam mattress with pillow top, but it very old and there is no support any longer so we needed a new mattress. Bought this one online and tried it the first night. My husband complained it hurt his back, but we both decided we’d try it again. He has not been able to sleep on it since, and I have been using it for 5 nights now, each night being worse and waking in more back pain. So today it’s going back to the warehouse and we have already tried out and purchased a Sealy Perfect Sleeper! This supposed "medium" mattress is hard as a rock.

I brought this a month ago after waking up with aches and pains from sleeping on an older mattress. I was hesitant to buy a mattress online, but decided to go for it. It was a very easy setup but I was not happy that there were no handles. However, I’ve since learned that the new mattresses are not being made with handles due to the size and weight. It took a few nights to get used to the feel, but what a difference it has made for me. I used to wake up and get out of bed at 3 am because of feeling achy. Now, I leave the house late almost every morning because I don’t want to get out of bed. It may not be the same for everyone, but I’m very happy with this mattress.

So I’ve read through a ton of reviews here on this mattress and many have stated that the Pearl Gel is not the same mattress that Consumer Reports initially reviewed and that this newer model does not show up at all in their ratings.

We love our new mattress. It was rated #1 on consumer reports for memory foam mattresses! It isn’t hot at all like some people say memory foam can be, and it’s not hard either. This one is rated a medium firmness and I believe that’s accurate. Also, when you set it up, no smells at all, but it will take a full day or two to be fully expanded. We slept on it about 4 hours after setting it up and I was worried it was too soft but that was only because it hadn’t expanded fully yet at all. I can also sit on the edge of the bed and not slide off because it doesn’t compress too much. Stop thinking and buy this bed!

Initially, I was sleeping pretty well on the Novaform 14" Serafina Gel Queen Memory Foam Mattress although my wife thought it was too hard from the start. After a year of sleeping on the mattress, I must agree with her. There is very little "give" to this foam and my back and joint pains returned after a few months of relief. (Imagine what the innerspring monster was like if this gave me relief when switching). We are moving this mattress to the guest bedroom and getting a medium soft mattress. The firmness scale should be a standard item in features or description sections.

Went to several mattress stores, including the one with the "system" that determines the right mattress for you. I kept returning to this mattress and, after reading the reviews, decided to try it. I’ve had it now for more than six months and am completely satisfied. Initially, I wondered if it would be too firm but the firmness is not the same as sleeping on a solid flat service. I would describe it more as "supportive." I live in a hot climate and am not uncomfortable. It is not a hot mattress, in my opinion. I’m a side sleeper and do not wake up with back pain.

Very happy with this mattress. A great feature is my wife does not feel me toss and turn / or get in and out. She is a light sleeper and slight movements wake her. On another note, COSTCO and Innocor are great to work with. We had a NovaForm mattress for about 7-8 years, and recently noticed deformation in the mattress which we believed to cause lower back pain. While we had misplaced the original receipt, COSTCO quickly retrieved this when asked. The Innocor Rep (Carmen) was a pleasure to work with on our warranty claim. They stand behind there product and shipped a new unit to us in short order.

I’ve been sleeping on this mattress for a year after sleeping on spring mattresses for the past 50 years. I love this mattress. It did seem a bit firm for the first month or so but over time both my wife and I have noticed a very nice adjustment to a medium feel. I am 5’9 180 pounds and this mattress has eliminated any back pain I felt in the past on the spring style mattresses. I sleep around 50%+ of the time on my side and coupling with a correct pillow(s) is very important so I recommend investing in both a good mattress and some nice pillows to get the best sleep outcome.

I bought this mattress about 2 months ago and it’s wonderful. I had been reading a lot on consumer reports for many different mattresses, and this one seemed to have the best qualities for the price. It has one of the highest ratings overall, as well as some of the best ratings for a foam mattress for spinal support and durability. There was definitely a break in period for about a week, but now I’m sleeping so soundly and not waking up at all during the night (which I used to do all the time). It is medium firmness as described – very good for your back!

For years we wanted a Tempurpedic so when Costco.com offered them a couple of months ago, we took the plunge. For six weeks, I did not sleep. The Tempurpedic was hot, hard as a brick, and uncomfortable. It was also excessively tall.

I’m a researcher and looked for a couple months before deciding on this mattress, based both on reviews on here as well as it being a Consumer Reports best buy. I’ve only had it up for 3 nights, but we have both slept more solid in the last 3 nights than we have in the last 3 months. We are both average sized people and find the "medium" rating to be slightly off, but it’s been exactly what we wanted. This was also one of the reasons I purchased this particular one because other reviews had said it seems more firm than what a medium should be. If I had purchased a firm, I’m guessing that would be too hard. Everything this mattress advertises other than firmness is accurate, so hopefully this helps you decide. I will update this review down the road after we’ve been on it awhile.

I slept on this bed for 2 months and then returned it. I returned it because most days I woke up with a back ache, it was too firm for me. They say it is medium firmness, but I don’t agree. I would rate it at medium firm. Firm to me is like sleeping on a board, and it is not quite that bad. Weird thing is, I had no problem falling asleep or sleeping, just I always ended up on my back rather than my side where I started and most days had an achy back. I had no complaints about the quality. It is very heavy when it comes, and definitely needed help getting it to the second floor.

I really wanted to like this product. The Consumer Reports review is positive, as are many end user’s reviews. When you first lay on it, it feels OK. 4-5 hours later, as the top foam layer compresses, you end up on the harder main foam block. It’s like putting a memory foam topper on your driveway and sleeping on that. I noticed most all of the negative reviews complain of it’s hardness, and most report pain or soreness. I am no exception. In fact I wake up due to the discomfort and notice tingling in my arms or fingers when side sleeping. I cant figure out if its just such a wide variation in personal preference that explain the reviews or if there is variation in the foam that yields mattresses with variable characteristics. BTW, I’m 6’0 and 190 lbs.

I purchased this mattress for my guest bedroom, but it’s not budging from my bedroom! It’s so comfortable, I’ve been sleeping like a baby since it arrived. It was extremely heavy! I live in a second floor apartment and my sister and I struggled to get it up the stairs. I mean pushing, shoving, pulling, panting! We are mid 50’s to 60, so, I don’t know. Once opened and on the bed, it quickly turned into this luscious Mattress before our eyes. It did have a smell, but it quickly dissipated; I was able to sleep on it first night without any foul smells. It’s high quality, more on the firm side, but my husband and I like a more firm mattress. I would absolutely recommend this mattress! I Love it!

I don’t know why some people are saying this mattress is too firm. If you hop around beds at mattress outlets, you’ll see that it is precisely a medium-softness mattress. This is my first foam mattress, as I’ve always slept on the old fashioned spring coils. And as a hot sleeper, I’m wary of the reputation foam has for retaining heat. The gel in the mattress is supposed to keep you cool, and it definitely does! Sometimes that cooling effect can wear off within a month or two though, so I guess we’ll see! But in the meantime, this is the most comfortable mattress I have ever owned, and it is comforting to have the Costco name behind it.

After years of suffering through restless nights sleep on our coil spring mattress we decided to try a memory foam mattress. We read about this top rated mattress on Consumer Reports online and it has surpassed our expectations tenfold. We have been having our best night sleep in ages and have been waking up feeling completely rested and ready for the day. I have told all of my friends and family about our purchase and recommend this mattress to anyone out there who has never tried a memory foam mattress or just wants a restful nights sleep. We will never go back to a coil spring mattress and look forward to going to bed every night now. This is by far the most comfortable mattress I have owned and I never imagined I would feel this rested in the morning.

I’ve been looking for a mattress to replace a 10+ year old box spring mattress for some time. After seeing the reviews for the Novaform Serafina mattress I decided to take the plunge. I’ve waited two months to write up a review to make sure it was as good as others said. I am definitely happy with the mattress. It has helped my aching 60 year old back. That was the main reason for the purchase. The only problems I’ve had are slight smell for 3-4 days and it was firmer than I was used to. After two months I think the firmness is a plus. I was also worried about the top layer of foam indenting, that has not been a problem.

We’ve had our Serafina Pearl now for about 3 months, having replaced a 10 year old pocketed coil mattress. I liked the fact that I could move around and not disturb my wife with the old mattress and this one does as well at that, if not better.

Consumer Reports was spot on. This is by far the number one mattress I’ve ever slept on. When you first get in bed the mattress seems a little firm but then you sink in the perfect amount for total body support. When you spouse move you don’t feel any movement like with a spring mattress. Probably the only low spot is that it’s hard to sit on the edge of the mattress. In my case it doesn’t really matter because mine is a platform bed with drawers underneath so it’s too high to sit on anyway. Absolutely love this mattress and the price was great.

After reading others’ reviews as well as a well know consumer magazine’s rating, we chose the Novaform Seraphina mattress. It is a great value being at least one third the price of similar mattresses. It did not smell at all the first day and inflated well over the day, so we slept on it the first night. We have had it a week are are very satisfied with its comfort. It is firm but cushions and does not let you sink into a "hole." My husband says his shoulder doesn’t go to sleep any more and he is less restless at night. I am also aching less and sleeping better. Even though we couldn’t lie on it before purchasing, Costco’s return policy is so fair that there is basically no risk.

We needed two mattresses, so I bought one to see if we would like it. We liked it a lot, it was of medium softness as stated in the description and very comfortable. Within several days I ordered the second one and it turned out to be hard as a rock and impossible to sleep on. If I did not know I would think these two mattresses were two different models. I am returning it and wondering if I should order another one and see if I get lucky or just buy a different model.

I have purchased over 10 mattresses in 20 years. At first I focused on the mid range priced mattress, like Sealy or Serta, but they did not work. Then I decided I needed to pay for a good mattress, purchasing a Sterns and Forster which cost over $2,000. No good. I then just picked up a cheap one at the local store because I was tired of buying the wrong mattress. I have had 2 back surgeries and worried about not "trying it out" but pulled the trigger on the Serafina. I plan to die on this mattress!! I will never mattress shop again as this is the best!

I don’t write a lot of reviews, but I thought I would this time to counter the negative reviews about the mattress being too firm. First, the mattress is firm, but not "too" firm. Second, I have arthritis in my back and can’t get a full night’s sleep without experiencing aggravating pain that sometimes keeps me up at night. I bought this mattress because it was top rated by consumer reports for back and side sleeping. The first night I slept on this mattress, not only did I wake up pain free for the first time in many years, but I actually overslept because I was so comfortable! I have to admit, I was a little scared of the firmness at first because I like a soft bed, but I’ll take a firm mattress that’s good for my back any day over a soft mattress that causes back pain.

This was a replacement for a 5 year old Queen Memory Foam Mattress; that was older generation technology. This Mattress is much cooler and breathes better, than the older mattress, due to the Gel Pearls in the top layer and the CustomWave foam in the 2nd layer. The Novaform website indicates the feel of this Mattress is MEDIUM, however after over a month sleeping on it, it feels more FIRM but still comfortable. This mattress replaced a memory foam mattress that cost 125% more 5 years ago without the newer technology and today costs 162% more with similar newer gel foam technology. Costco still gives you more bang for your buck!

My husband & I had never slept on a memory foam, so, we were hesitant to go this route, despite Costco’s fantastic guarantee & price. Our old mattress had to be replaced because I’d developed lower back pain for no apparent reason. After a lot of online research & visiting several stores (what a shock the prices there were!), we decided this would (hopefully) be for us. OH MY GOODNESS!! We slept on it the first night, had no trouble rolling over, or keeping our bodies comfortably cool. I slept the night thru, & woke up PAIN FREE!

I was looking for a new king size bed and started with Costco. The great reviews attracted me to the bed though I understand that everyone has a personal preference when it comes to mattress softness/firmness. I thought about it for a few days and then placed my order. Of course Costco shipped it to me for free which was super convenient. The bed arrived in a super heavy box so it took two of us to bring it up stairs. Once we took the wrapping off the bed quickly puffed up to it’s normal size. There was no odor what so ever which really pleased me. The bed is a perfect combination of softness yet firm enough for good support. This has been the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on! Better yet, you won’t feel it when your partner moves in the middle of the night!

We purchased this mattress based on reviews and a lot of other online research. I LOVED the mattress. My hubby, however, found it to be TOO firm. He has a hip prosthetic and was unable to lay on that side because the firmness caused him pain. It is firmer than the air-style high priced mattresses at firmness #10. We had to return it. YAY, COSTCO! We called for a pick-up. Done. Seamlessly. No added cost. My family doesn’t call me "Costco Diva" for nothing! Costco service is unsurpassed.

This mattress is firm . Very firm. I was replacing a memory foam mattress and thought I’d try this brand. It does not even have the feel of a foam/gel mattress. We slept on it for 3 weeks waiting on it to "break in." It never gave a bit. I like a firm bed, but this was too firm for even me. So just be aware that it is extremely firm with little to no give (as a memory foam mattress does). If you like a mattress with a "board" feeling, this is the one for you!

Simmons Beautyrest’s Specifics

Beautyrest is one of the most sought after brands available. Their mattresses areknown for their pillow tops and high end thickness, made famous by their Beautyrest Black line and big mattress retailer partnerships. But, over the years, they have expanded into bringing their mattresses direct to customers online. While their offerings on major retailers offer solid selection, there may be more value found online buying direct.

We’ll go through some of their mattress collections that you can find online and discuss them versus some of the in-store options they provide.

Read on to learn more about Beautyrest’s mattress offerings.

Online-Direct Mattress Types

Beautyrest is just starting to jump into the online-direct marketplace, but we believe they are doing it right by offeringsome of their higher quality designs for less. While in-store options offer the benefit of testing them in-store, buying online offers a 100 Night home trial and can provide better value for the money due to cutting out extra costs.

Below we’ll go through each of their online options and then discuss how they stack up against their in-store and online retailer counterparts.

Pros:High value mattress for this thickness and brand name.

Cons:Higher prices than highly rated budget-friendly mattress-in-a-box brands.

In-Store Mattress Types

While not as high value, you may be familiar with Simmons because of what you’ve seen in-store. Though, Simmons goes through regular branding changes, their current in-store line up includes the Black, Platinum, Hybrid, Silver, and Beautyrest. You may still see some other lines being sold, such as The Recharge, which is similar to the Silver. We’ll go through each of these lines in depth so you know what’s inside.

The Beautyrest lineis the most affordable available, with the main mattress being theBR800™(note: some retailers may change the names of the models to set the price). This mattress comes in a plush pillow top or euro top option, a medium firmness pillow top, or a standard medium or firm mattress. For under $800, these mattresses arevery affordable and feature materials like gel memory foam and pocketed coils.Customers like these mattresses at first, but there are some that have had issues with durability for lower priced Beautyrest models.

Starting just under $1200, the Silver line also has plenty of firmness options available, and claims to be more durable than the less expensive options. The BRS900-C™ comes with two foam layers and a layer of 900 Series pocketed coils. Most customers find these to be initially comfortable. There were some complaints about the foam comfort layers durability.

The Beautyrest Hybrid collection offers three different hybrid mattress options — the BRX3000-IM, BRX1000-IP, and BRX1000-C. The biggest differences between these are the foam layers that they choose to place on top of the pocketed coil support systems (and the pricepoints are also different). With varying firmness options, there are firm, plush, and medium-firm options for sleepers withadded focus on cooling on the top layers. These mattresses get good ratings on initial comfort overall, but price value may be a concern for some.

The Beautyrest Platinum offers much thicker mattresses than the previous-mentioned lines. With plush pillow top options, their options includethe Jaycrest, Spring Grove, and Haven Pines. Starting just under $2000, these mattresses aren’t cheap, but they offer many layers of foam and coil layers, including microcoils in some mattresses. This line will do well responding to the body’s curves initially. Customers like the Platinum mattresses, but there may be some that have issues with foam dipping over time.

Beautyrest Black is the height of luxury in the Beautyrest brand. It offers three different mattresses to choose from — The L-Class, C-Class, and K-Class. With multiple firmness options, these mattresses are ideal for those that wantmany high end memory foam layersand a specialized, pillowy comfort level. That said, there are some complaints about these mattresses, with durability issues being the most common.

Overall Comfort

Most Beautyrest mattresses get good initial ratings for comfort. However, there are some that suffered from durability issues with some models. The online-direct versions will offer some additional price value for those that are discouraged.

Firmness

Beautyrest does an excellent job providing a range of firmness options. The above scale is a representation of the kind of offerings they provide. When it comes to online options, they providemedium and soft models.

Back Pain Relief

There are many reports of good initial feelings from these mattresses, but with some reports of dipping and durability issues over time, there may be some issues with spinal alignment over time in these circumstances.

Cooling

Some models do a better job than others when it comes to cooling. With the addition of cooling treatments on the cover layers and gel-infusion in foams in the top comfort layers, there are many mattresses that will do well cooling. The two cooling online C-Class options should do a superior job keeping cool for most sleepers.

Who Are Beautyrest Mattresses Right For?

If you are keen on buying a Beautyrest, the best decision is tobuy online with higher price valuefor the materials. While in-store options get good reviews for initial comfort from many, there are some customers that report issues with durability over time and also higher pricepoints than expected.

Outstanding mattress at an unbeatable price. Mattress Firm wanted $1k for the same exact mattress!

This mattress felt great at first but after only 1 year started to sag on both sides, leaving a "hill" in the middle.
Now we are having back problems and so are replacing it after only a little more than a year. This is a horrible investment,
don’t make this mistake.

Mattress is ok for few years but when it does go back, forget about the 10yrs warranty. Simmons will no honor it.. they will try to charge you as much or more for "upgrading the mattress" with no warranty on the replacement! I have filed complaints with BBB but they don’t care.
Please file complaints if you have had any warranty issues so they are force to take of the customers!

Wished it was thicker

We just received this mattress today, and it is TERRIBLE! I am writing this review at 1:30am because I can’t sleep on it. I have given up and am now lying on a foam topper placed on the bedroom floor, and I am much more comfortable here on the floor than I was in the bed.
The fabric on the mattress is stiff and of very low quality. This shouldn’t be a problem because it’s covered with a mattress pad and sheets anyway, but it still doesn’t "give" for that plush feel. You sink into the mattress, which could be good, except you are met with hard springs and awful pressure points. My husband, a back sleeper, is already having terrible back pains after just a few hours. I’m a side-sleeper, and my shoulder and hip are killing me. I know they say a mattress needs time to settle, but I can’t tolerate this bed for a few hours, much less a whole night. I will be returning this mattress.

The cheapest made mattress we have ever purchased. I have now had 2 of these mattresses, the first was ripped and sagged in the middle right out of the package. They (nationwide retailer) replaced it with another and it is as bad, if not worse. It squeaks so bad and is so cheap. I paid over $1,300 for a king set and it is completely useless to us. It makes so much noise and racket every time you move. I will never buy anything with the Beautyrest name.

This is the Worst worst worst bed ever.
The worst purchase we ever made. If you have back or hip issue potential, this bed will bring it out! I hate this miserable, awful bed!
If Stephen King were to write about a pain inflicting bed, this bed would be it.

Beautiful comfortable bed delivered thru Amazon just as easily as ordering a small item
Delivered fast and easily. We are quite happy. Excellent quality !

Outstanding mattress at an unbeatable price. Mattress Firm wanted $1k for the same exact mattress!

Had this restored spirits five years.the last three years were hell. My husband wouldn’ Sleep on it. Contacted Simmons for inspection and replacement. No go. I have spent weeks reading reviews. I am sleeping on this any longer. Moved to guest room until I find new mattress. I will never buy another beauty rest.

Thought I ordered the plush mattress, but received the firm. Trying to adjust to this mattress. Good price and good quality.

I could not be happier with the pillow top mattress that I recently purchased. The pillow top seems to help me sleep better and is better for me to sleep on since I have arthritis. The mattress fabric is of excellent quality.

This mattress is nice and comfortable. Good deal. I picked this mattress out online. I’ve never bought a mattress online before. Fortunately, it worked out. Good choice.

The mattress is nice and firm, pillow top just as I ordered. I was very surprised at the excellent quality of the mattress. Have got no response to the advertised gift card. It was supposedly mailed separately 2 weeks ago

I tried many mattresses in 4 different stores one Saturday and most were fine but as soon as I lay on this Simmons Beautyrest, something felt different. I walked around and tried a few more then came back to the Beautyrest. I knew it was the one – perfect pillow top yet firm as I like it. No more sleepless, tossing and turning nights!

Purchased the Silver but only kept it 3 weeks. Was good the first week but by the second week started to break down. By the third week it was squishy and made my back worse. If you have a bad back don’t buy a pillow top. They tell me now that I am returning the mattress. Penney’s does not refund your money so am having to buy a different mattress. Originally told I had up to 100 days but that is no longer true, it is now 48 hours. Who can tell if a mattress is right for you in 48 hours. Wish I had not purchased my mattress from Penney’s. Buyer beware.

VERY DISAPPOINTED. NOT WHAT I EXPECTED. THIS QUEEN SIZE MATTRESS COULD NOT POSSIBLY BE WORTH APPROXIMATELY 1800.00(I DID NOT PAY THIS PRICE) BUT IT’S NOT WORTH THAT PRICE! JUST NOT SATISFIED. SEEMS CHEAP, NOT TOO COMFORTABLE. DOES NOT FEEL LIKE YOU’RE SLEEPING ON A CLOUD, NO WAY! I PURCHASED ONLINE, BIG MISTAKE! GO TO STORE PERSONALLY TO CHOOSE YOUR MATTRESS.

I think this is an excellent mattress. The only thing was the delay in getting the mattress whic paritally was my fault since I ordered the wrong one at first. Oerall I am very pleased with it!

I thought it would be a little softer on the top but I still sleep great.

This product is not as firm as I expected. I was hoping it would get better as i get used to with it but have not seen the result as of yet.

It seems to be very well made; movement dampening is good. If you want something firm, this probably isn’t what you want. I am a stomach sleeper and the plush doesn’t really support the arch of your back.

This bed is very comfortable. It’s like sleeping on a cloud. Great buy.

Mattress feels like its years old already with height changes that make it uncomfortable

Most mattress start out great, the real test is over time. We hope it last years as it should with out sagging or breaking down

I love this mattress! Quality is great and the opportunity to use coupons and earn rewards is awesome! The company that delivered the mattress was great also.

I was looking for a firm mattress, and found it in this Simmons Beautyrest Silver Snowhaven Luxury Firm Mattress! It’s A Five Star Rated Bed, That I Guarantee Will Give You A Five Star Night’s Sleep!!

Problems with delivery, didn’t get it until over a month after ordering even though we’re home 4 days out of the week. After only a couple of months with the new mattress, it already has 2 slightly sunken spots where we lay, and we are not overweight people. I’ve heard that Simmons makes a better mattress if you are willing to pay a lot more, but this apparently isn’t one of those.

previous mattress was a Beautyrest plush king. Wanted a little more firmness but full firm was too much. The luxury firm was just right. Took a week or so to get used to the extra firmness but now we love it. Also, this mattress is nice and thick so it works well on a platform style frame without the need for box springs.

For the first time in months I slept like a baby the very first night I got this mattress. Firm yet extremely comfortable. I just love it. I tried a Saatva brand luxury firm mattress and it was terrible. I had to come back to Beautyrest and I’m glad I did.

The salesman was so easy to work with. And the delivery men were great.

This is my first bed purchase without actually trying the specific bed first, I tried a few out at the local store and then saw this described online. I was nervous but the product is actually good. Only complaint is it took over two weeks for delivery

This mattress is great buy. I originally planned to get a tempur pedic. I then switched to a Stearns and Foster. In the end this was the best mattress at a great a price. It was more in my budget.

We finally chose this new mattress after much research. We were scared of so many choices available, but not a lot of positive reviews on most of them. With backaches every morning for my husband for awhile now, & now mine starting to hurt, we knew it was time to take the leap & buy a new one. I was shopping at Penney’s for towels while my husband waited in car, when I seen the mattress sale. So I went & got him & made him lay on a few. He chose this one & the very first night he slept like a baby, & has ever since. We both wake up with no soreness already. It is a tall mattress & we bought a new box spring as well, so we have to slide down out of bed. But we love the height of it right now. And maybe as we get older we’ll have to get a step on each side, or go with the standard bed frame. We have a lovely vintage oak bed with side rails, so both pieces had to sit on that. So it is tall now! So if you need lower, suggest buying just the mattress & sitting it on the plywood (as suggested for warranty)..I would still like both pieces even if I had the lower frame. So we love it & would recommend it. Pretty too! Love the navy blue sides.

It is so difficult to choose a mattress that you have confidence in, but this mattress is great! It is firm but well cushioned. It is also beautiful. The excellent delivery and set-up service is also appreciated. Virginia Jones

My daughter loves her new mattress. She actually took her thousand stuffed animals off the bed so she could really enjoy it.

This bed is very comfortable, I would recommend to anyone.

simple only need 1 no need for box spring and comfort is amazing .. fits to you.. feeling someone else kicking is very mim.

Price was great, had to wait on delivery, but received when quoted by very nice employees an they removed old one. Mattress is firm but must be covered by mattress cover for warranty i believe.

This mattress is too soft for me. It is not a pillow top, but the top seems "fluffy" to me. I liked my old Beautyrest mattress better. It is also too high for me. But, my husband loves the new mattress.

I researched mattresses and found what was excepted of a good mattress. This product truly meets all my needs and the price was great. The firmness is perfect, and I will replace my second bedroom with this product. It was a great choice.

Great customer service! Love my new mattress! I will definitely recommend you to friends and family.

I like my new mattress but am still getting use to it. So far it seems to be doing real good

I sleep like a baby every night! The mattress is worth every penny.

I bought this mattress for my teenage daughter and she loves it! It is on the softer side, so if you’re looking for a firm mattress this is not the one for you.

I am more than happy with my purchase, this mattress makes for very comfortable sleeping.

Simmons Beautyrest Silver Fernanda Plush-Mattress, is the best mattress that I have ever slept on. The mattress is very comfortable. I like the way it feel, the softness but yet support my body. It gives the softness, not too soft because it also gives the support I want for my back. That is the main reason I bought it, was the support I get. I did not want a mattress that was so soft that I did not get any support for my back. I want a soft mattress that I could wake-up the next morning with out my back hurting. I also love the way it feel. it hug my body and I seem to sink right in it.

This mattress was OK at first but quickly lost function. After about two to three years now, my lower back is sore in the morning, and there are pressure points on my hips. I think this has caused the numbness and nerve sensations in my legs and feet for the last year. I thought I purchased a good mattress but now find after research that it is a low quality one with lots of complaints. ALL OF THE GOOD REVIEWS MUST BE FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVENT HAD THEM THAT LONG, OR FROM BEAUTYREST COMPANY FAKE REVIEWS.

We purchased a beautyrest mattress a little over 4 years ago with a 25 year warranty. We got a great deal on the mattress through a wholesale club that negotiated the price for us. Flash forward, my wife and I have been sleeping in "ruts" for about 6 months and finally I sent in a warranty claim as per instructions. We were told we qualified for a replacement and had a $2000 value to use. This was retail value to retail value. The mattress we selected from the available list will cost us and additional $1240 plus $85 shipping charge plus taxes. I am upset to say the least. We will continue with the process because I have almost 4 hours invested at this time jumping through their hoops. I am going back to more stores to find a few more "replacement mattresses" that will fit into their category. Process is horrible and 4 years into a 25 year mattress? We should not have to go through this bs! They know that these mattress have problems and should have told us to pick out exactly what will be replaced at no charge. I don’t have a great feeling about this whole process and am sure I will not be satisfied with the end result. Avoid Simmons at all cost. Buy a Nectar or anything that costs a fraction of their prices because you will be replacing them and paying more money down the line. I will update if anything improves with the outcome of this process.

The stitching holding the pillowtop covering a brand new less than 6 months old mattress is unraveling, exposing the foam inside, opening my top up like some sardine can. not kidding. Contact Simmons Beautyrest for customer service and see how that goes? They will not speak and transfer your call to the retailer, they will forward your emails to the retailer and not respond, inform you, or give you any heads up at all. They walk away and switch you, they have no interest, they have no response, they have no plan other than re-routing you and your issue from their little kingdom behind their own Wall. maybe they are the ones that convinced people to separate families ta the border, I don’t know but they certainly use the same styles when it comes to dealing with people – which means, they don’t treat you like people and lesser beings. Why would you give them any money? Why promote this company? Horrible all the way through, product, quality, service is crap. 100% Pure Crap

I purchased my Beauty Rest less than a year ago. For the past 4 months, I have been trying to get service. The company website offers 2 options–do it yourself pictures and pay about $90 to have a technician come to your home. Since the pictures weren’t possible with a foam top mattress, I wanted to pay the money for the tech. However, there is no technician that services my area. I think it is their gimmick for people to give up and suffer the consequences of their terrible investment. The manager of the store tried to help me, and he could not get service from the company. My bed sags and is causing back pain. I will never buy another product from Beauty Rest..

Same as previous reviewer, this mattress felt great at first but after only 6 months started to sag on both sides, leaving a "hill" in the middle. Now we are having back problems and so are replacing it after only a little more than a year. This is a horrible investment, don’t make this mistake.

Purchased a Beautyrest gold mattress and boxspring in 2017. With in 6 or 8 months I had to turn it because it sags so I feel like I am in a hammock. (I am single) and after a few months same thing happened. I have been to dealer and they gave me paperwork and had to measure the sag.. Well that doesn’t work because mattress comes up some so doesn’t meet the level required for warranty. I have a code 10 on mattress so assuming this is 10 years. I am extremely dissapointed in this product and will not purchase again.

Mattress was uneven – higher at one end than the other. The reason was clear. The sewing of the seams was not level. It looked like a team of blind monkeys had sewed it together.

spent an hour measuring ,taking pictures for warranty for a mattress that sags on both sides only to be told too bad . Avoid at all costs

I had the first Beauty Rest Black ($2500 mattress) replaced by the company at 5 years of age. It had sunken areas of over 2-3 inches. I am a 145 # woman the only one sleeping on this mattress, which was turned monthly. The new mattress was 3 years old last April and is doing even worse than the first, with sunken areas of 4” easily. I will be going back to Slumberland where it was purchased this week. This is so much of a headache to go through all the hoops that needs to be done to have the warranty honored, but it is a expensive mattress. I know one thing I don’t want it replaced with the same mattress if I can get the warranty honored. I have had beauty rest mattresses before and been happy with them, none as expensive as this one. What a disappointment

Had this mattress for only 3 yrs and it’s totally broken down . We bought it from the Bay Canada and there customer service is very slow dealing with this issue. Will not be buying this product ever again, not happy at all .

How are simmons mattresses rated

If you dread a trip to Mattress Firm or Macy’s, realize that you have more options than ever before—department and specialty stores are no longer the default destination for mattress shopping. Great mattresses at fair prices can be found at warehouse clubs and through online retailers—and the competition is only getting more intense.

We test queen-size mattresses (60 inches wide by 80 inches long) because they’re the most common size purchased. (For your reference, the other standard dimensions are king, 76×80 inches; California king, 72×84; full, or double, 53×75; and twin, 38×75.)

We subject each mattress to a battery of tests, including running a nearly 310-pound roller over each one 30,000 times to simulate eight to 10 years of use. Still, there’s much to know even before you start shopping. Here’s your path to a good night’s sleep.

Find the Best Mattress for Any Sleeper

Compare the Types

If you’re shopping for a new mattress, you could be overwhelmed by the variety of choices and prices, ranging from too-low-to-believe to astronomical. But there’s good news: Our years of testing have shown that, whichever type you choose, you only need to spend around $1,000 for a comfortable, supportive mattress. Here are the major types you’ll see:

Foam Mattresses

Though many manufacturers use polyurethane to create their foam layers, some might use latex as well and we note which mattresses have latex in our features tab. Some mattresses include both. Memory foam softens when you lie on it and soon molds to your body. Once you get up, it springs back to its original shape. Some foam mattresses require some effort to change position.

Mattress Myths

Common claims that haven’t held up in our tests:

The More Coils, the Better
The better innerspring models we test have 600 to 1,000 coils. But even if one mattress has more coils than another, the coils could be made of thinner-gauge metal. You’ll also hear about coil variations such as Bonnell (hourglass type), continuous wire, and individually pocketed springs. None of those is inherently superior.

Gel Provides a Cooler Sleep
More than half our innerspring mattresses (noted in our mattress ratings) have a layer of gel-infused foam that’s claimed to provide a cooling effect, though it’s worth noting that 10 percent of the mattresses with a gel-infused layer still retain warmth. Overall, our tests have shown that innerspring mattresses containing gel did tend to sleep slightly cooler, but the reverse was true with gel-infused foam beds.

Forget About Comparison Shopping

If you like a mattress at one store and ask elsewhere for something similar, you’re likely to be steered toward a same-brand mattress claimed to have the same construction, components, and firmness. Mattress makers offer some lines nationally, but when those brands are sold through major chains such as Macy’s or Mattress Firm, they’re typically exclusive to those chains. And manufacturers don’t publish a directory of comparable mattresses. So use our ratings as a guide, and insist on the precise make and model that scored well in our tests. Also check our ratings of mattress brands and stores, based on subscriber surveys.

Shopping Tips

Lie Down
If possible, lie on any mattress that you’re considering. Wear loose clothes, and shoes you can slip off. Make yourself comfortable, and shoo away the salesperson if you’re feeling pressured. Salespeople should expect you to take your time. Spend at least 5 or 10 minutes on each side and on your back (your stomach, too, if that’s a preferred sleeping position). Panelists who took beds home for a month-long trial rarely changed the opinion they formed after the first night. Shopping online or at a warehouse club? Tryouts aren’t usually an option, so checking return policies before you buy is extra-important.

Check Return Policies
Make sure the store offers a full refund or credit toward another mattress. Return periods, often called “comfort guarantees,” range from a couple of weeks to 120 days. Some retailers, including Macy’s and Sears, charge a 15 percent restocking fee. Some sellers provide free pickup if you want a refund or an exchange, but otherwise, you’ll have to pay for it—or cart the mattress to the store. Macy’s, for example, charges an $85 pickup fee. And you’ll be responsible for any damage.

Try to Haggle
Once you’ve settled on a model, try to bring the price down. Many businesses, such as warehouse clubs, have fixed prices and won’t budge. But for retailers that do negotiate—particularly specialty chains—huge markups allow them to lower prices by 50 percent or more during their frequent sales. Our recommendation: Any time of year, insist on a sale price you’ve seen for the mattress you know you want, and don’t be afraid to walk out if you feel you’re getting a raw deal. While it’s a little tougher to negotiate online, there are still ways to save.

Don’t Be Bullied Into Buying a Box Spring
You might not need it. If your box spring isn’t broken and is still structurally sound, consider keeping it and saving money (roughly $150 to $300 for a queen-size). One caveat: Some brands require you to buy their box spring to receive full warranty coverage. Many foam manufacturers recommend a platform base or strong slatted wood foundations.

Understand the Warranty
It can range from 10 to 25 years and covers only manufacturing defects such as sagging and loose or broken coil wires. Coverage is frequently prorated, meaning that it decreases over time.

On Delivery Day
Never accept delivery without inspecting the mattress (and the box spring, if you buy one) for stains and other damage. Also be sure that the mattress has a label that states “all-new material” before you send the driver on his way. If it’s not there, refuse delivery. And keep it on afterward in case you have to file a warranty claim in the future. If you bought a bed-in-a-box, inspect the mattress as soon as you unroll it. Call customer service immediately if something appears to be wrong with the mattress or if it’s dirty. Take a few photos with your smartphone in case the customer service representative asks for proof of the damage.

Pressure Relief

This refers to the degree to which a mattress molds to or cradles the contours of the body. This helps alleviate pressure point pain, especially on the hips and shoulders.

The mattress conforms to a noticeable extent without hugging the body too tightly. It has a ‘Medium’ feel that is ideal for people weighing between 130 and 230 lbs.

Temperature Neutrality

The temperature of a mattress throughout the night is affected by how much body heat is retained. Several factors affect temperature neutrality, including material composition, layer thickness, and dissipation of heat through airflow.

The Beautyrest Hybrid sleeps at a comfortable temperature for most thanks to its cooling BlackICE cover, gel-infused comfort layers, and strong airflow through the coil support core.

Edge Support

The degree to which the perimeter of the mattress supports body weight. In some cases, mattresses may sink when weight is applied. This sinkage, often called “roll-off”, affects how closely you might sleep to the edge of the bed.

A high-density foam encasement reinforces the coils, which may help reduce sinkage along the edges over time.

How Is the Beautyrest Hybrid Mattress Constructed?

Cover

The Beautyrest Hybrid Mattress is covered in a stretchy knit fabric that is cool to the touch and part of a system Simmons calls InfiniCool Plus, which is intended to promote airflow and cool the top of the mattress.

Comfort Layers

Three layers combine to form the comfort system in the Beautyrest Hybrid: a 1-inch gel memory foam layer, a 2-inch gel memory foam layer, and a 1-inch medium polyfoam layer. These layers provide pressure relief, forming a cradle for the sleeper. The thick memory foam layers also serve to isolate motion. However, this mattress does not provide the traditional memory foam “hugging” sensation, despite its construction.

Support Layers

A 9.5 inch layer of pocketed coils surrounded by a high-density polyfoam encasement makes up the support core of the Beautyrest Hybrid Mattress. Since airflow occurs easily through pocketed coils, this support core contributes to the bed’s favorable temperature neutrality rating. The Beautyrest Hybrid’s support core also majorly contributes to the adequate lumbar support experienced by our back sleep testers of all weights.

Because of its coil layer, the Beautyrest Hybrid earned a good, rather than great, rating for motion isolation. Motion transfer is more common in hybrid mattresses than in all-foam beds due to the presence of coils. Unlike innersprings, however, pocketed coils can be depressed individually, so hybrid mattresses transfer less motion than innerspring mattresses.

Mattress Height

At 13.5 inches thick, the Beautyrest Hybrid Mattress has an above-average profile. This space allows room for three foam comfort layers and a pocketed coil support layer.

Since the Beautyrest Hybrid has a taller profile, customers who opt for this mattress may need to buy deep-pocket sheets to fit it.

What Are the Firmness and Feel Like?

Our testing found the Beautyrest Hybrid Mattress to fall at a 6.5 out of 10, or medium-firm, on the firmness scale. This mattress is only available in one firmness level.

As a hybrid mattress, the Beautyrest Hybrid contains memory foam and polyfoam comfort layers over a pocketed coil support layer reinforced by a high-density foam encasement. The comfort layers provide pressure relief and some contouring to the body. The Beautyrest Hybrid doesn’t offer that traditional memory foam feeling of sinking in and being “hugged” by the mattress. Instead, it provides a balance of sleeping in and sleeping on the bed, with heavier sleepers sinking in deeper while lightweight sleepers float more on top.

The firm pocketed coils of the Beautyrest Hybrid provide support without creating discomfort for most sleepers. Back sleepers felt particularly supported by the Beautyrest Hybrid, regardless of their weight.

Ratings Breakdown

Performance Ratings

Now, let’s look at our performance ratings for the Beautyrest Hybrid Mattress. These ratings are based on findings from our in-house testing crew, feedback from external sleep testers, and verified owner experiences.

Durability

Beautyrest mattresses have been around since 1925, and positive customer reviews provide evidence of their durability. The Beautyrest Hybrid is likely to last as long as an average mattress due to its construction and high-quality materials. Generally, hybrid mattresses last longer than all-foam beds. Customers should expect the Beautyrest Hybrid to last for many years.

The memory foam layers of the Beautyrest Hybrid might develop minor body impressions over time from regular use. Rotating the mattress heat-to-foot every 3-6 months can prolong the lifespan of the foam and prevent deep indentations from forming.

Motion Isolation

In our testing, the Beautyrest Hybrid was good, but not great, when it came to motion isolation. The thick comfort layers absorb some motion, but the tightly sewn cover had a tendency to pull with each movement. When lying on the bed, our testers could feel some movement from another person moving around next to them. This motion transfer might not bother the average sleeper, but more sensitive sleepers should be aware of it.

Hybrid mattresses generally do not isolate motion as well as all-foam mattresses due to their coil layer. Pocketed coils operate independently of one another, so they transfer less motion compared to innerspring mattresses, in which the coils are all connected.

Off-Gassing

We smelled an odor upon opening the Beautyrest Hybrid Mattress. Off-gassing occurs when materials in the memory foam and polyfoam layers degrade and release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the air. The odor dissipated within a few hours and was completely gone a day or two after unboxing the mattress. Airflow through the coil layers allow the odor to dissipate more quickly than it would from an all-foam mattress.

Most people won’t be bothered by the off-gassing from the Beautyrest Hybrid Mattress. People who are sensitive to smells might find the off-gassing bothersome, however.

Pressure Relief

To evaluate pressure relief, we had our testers of each weight lie on the mattress in different positions on top of a sensory pad that measures pressure build-up. Our pressure mapping tool showed that overall, the Beautyrest Hybrid provides adequate pressure relief to most sleepers. Specifically, back sleepers of all weights found this mattress to provide a nice combination of support and pressure relief.

Average- and heavyweight side sleepers also enjoyed pressure relief and spinal alignment while lying on the Beautyrest Hybrid. Lightweight side sleepers experienced some pressure build-up, however, especially when laying on their sides. Lighter weight sleepers tend to prefer plusher mattresses that conform more closely to the body to help alleviate pressure points.

Temperature Neutrality

Although the Beautyrest Hybrid contains memory foam layers, which are known for trapping heat, it does a very good job of staying temperature neutral. The pocketed coil layer of this hybrid mattress allows for airflow that keeps the mattress cooler than all-foam mattresses.

The memory foam layers are infused with gel, which is intended to help people sleep cooler. Also, the cover contains fabric layered in a way purposely designed to promote airflow.

Edge Support

We asked testers of multiple weights to sit on and lie near the edge of the Beautyrest Hybrid Mattress to evaluate its edge support. The edge did not buckle or fold underneath any of our testers, and they all felt secure when lying near the edge. Hybrid mattresses generally have better edge support than all-foam mattresses due to the firmness of the coil layer. The Beautyrest Hybrid performs particularly well in this category due to the high-density foam encasement around the coil support layer, which reinforces the edges and prevents sagging.

The Beautyrest Hybrid’s edge support allows sleepers to use the entire sleep surface, which can be helpful for those who share a bed. Strong edge support, combined with the bed’s responsiveness, also makes it easier for people to get in and out of bed.

Noise

Our testers found that the Beautyrest Hybrid is quiet, but it is not a silent mattress. Putting weight on the mattress results in light sound. Hybrid mattresses tend to make more noise than all-foam mattresses due to their coil layer, which can squeak and creak as the mattress ages. However, the bed’s thick foam layers do help muffle the noise.

The light creaks occasionally heard from the Beautyrest Hybrid as a result of weight and movement on the mattress will not bother most sleepers. Extremely sensitive sleepers, however, might prefer to opt for a silent, all-foam mattress.

The Beautyrest Hybrid rates excellent for sex because of its strong edge support and responsiveness. Although the mattress conforms to the body to some extent, it responds, or springs back, quickly enough that the conforming properties do not get in the way of movement on the bed. Highly conforming mattresses can make movement such as changing positions difficult, but that isn’t a problem with the Beautyrest Hybrid.

Strong edge support is also advantageous when it comes to sex. The strong edge support of the Beautyrest Hybrid helps protect people from slipping off the edge of the bed since the edges are not likely to fold or buckle. Although the Beautyrest Hybrid is not likely to make loud noises during sex, customers should be aware that it won’t be silent.

Sleeper Ratings

Next, let’s discuss our sleeper ratings for the Beautyrest Hybrid Mattress.

There is no ideal mattress firmness and thickness since people’s preferences vary depending on their body weight, shape, and preferred sleeping position. In order to provide ratings that are useful for a diverse audience, the Tuck team evaluated the Beautyrest Hybrid with sleep testers of different body weights and preferred sleep positions.

Lightweight Sleepers – Less than 130 lbs.

Like back sleepers of all weights, lightweight back sleepers found the Beautyrest Hybrid provides adequate lumbar support to keep them comfortable throughout the night. The mix of support and pressure relief makes the Beautyrest Hybrid earn high ratings from this group.

Lightweight side and stomach sleepers, however, did not enjoy the Beautyrest hybrid as much. While it provided both support and pressure relief, the mattress felt too firm to these groups, with some of our testers experiencing pressure points in areas like the hips and shoulders. Lightweight side and stomach sleepers might want to opt for a softer mattress, unless they specifically prefer firm mattresses.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 to 230 lbs.

Of testers in all weight groups, average weight sleepers enjoyed the Beautyrest Hybrid the most. Regardless of if they slept on their backs, stomachs, sides, or a combination of positions, our average weight sleepers found this mattress meets their needs and provides a nice mix of support and pressure relief. Side sleepers in this group found the mattress promoted spinal alignment that kept them comfortable throughout the night.

Heavyweight Sleepers – More than 230 lbs.

Heavyweight sleep testers who prefer sleeping on their backs and sides rated the Beautyrest Hybrid highly. Back sleepers in this group received adequate lumbar support while still enjoying pressure relief from the conforming memory foam comfort layers.

Like average weight side sleepers, heavyweight side sleepers experienced spinal alignment while lying on their sides.

How Does the Beautyrest Hybrid Mattress Compare to Other Beds?

In this section, we compare the Beautyrest Hybrid with other similar mattresses. These comparisons help readers understand the differences between specific mattresses so they can determine which mattress is best for them personally.

Beautyrest Hybrid vs. Beautyrest Black

Like the Beautyrest Hybrid, the Beautyrest Black is a hybrid mattress sold online by the Simmons company. At 13.5 and 13 inches respectively, both mattresses are slightly high profile and as a result, require deep pocket sheets. The Beautyrest Black is a luxury mattress constructed with high-quality materials, so it costs a few hundred dollars more than the Beautyrest Hybrid at every size.

The Beautyrest Black is firmer than the Beautyrest Hybrid, rating 7.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, and offering very little contouring. Consequently, lightweight side and back sleepers experienced more pressure build-up with the Beautyrest Black than the Beautyrest Hybrid. However, light sleepers who share a bed should note that the Beautyrest Black performed much better in terms of noise, earning an excellent rating.

Beautyrest Hybrid vs. Brooklyn Bedding Signature

The Brooklyn Bedding Signature is another affordably priced, hybrid mattress sold online. Unlike the Beautyrest Hybrid, which is only available in one firmness level, the Brooklyn Bedding Signature comes in soft (3.5), medium (5.5), and firm (7.5) options. The medium is most similar to the Beautyrest Hybrid. Lightweight sleepers who find the Beautyrest Hybrid to be too firm might prefer the Brooklyn Bedding Signature in soft or medium, whereas those who prefer a slightly firmer mattress may prefer the firm option.

Although the two mattresses rated very similarly across multiple criteria, the Brooklyn Bedding Signature did earn higher scores for noise and off-gassing. The Brooklyn Bedding Signature makes a better option for sleepers who are more sensitive to sounds and smells.

Beautyrest Hybrid vs. DreamCloud

The DreamCloud Mattress is another direct-to-consumer hybrid mattress that also rates 6.5, or medium-firm, on the 1-10 firmness rating scale. Despite sharing a firmness level, our lightweight sleepers of all sleep positions (side, back, stomach) preferred the feel of the Beautyrest Hybrid.

Like the Beautyrest Hybrid, the DreamCloud rated highly with average- and heavyweight back sleepers. Both mattresses provide robust lumbar support, strong edge support, and the responsiveness that most couples prefer for sex. Neither mattress provides the characteristic “hugging” feeling of memory foam. The Beautyrest Hybrid is slightly more conforming, and our sleep testers found it provides better pressure relief than the DreamCloud.

Beautyrest Hybrid vs. Allswell Luxe Hybrid

Another hybrid mattress, the Allswell Luxe Hybrid also rates 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale. It contains copper-infused memory foam and polyfoam layers over an 8” pocketed coil support core. The Allswell Luxe Hybrid is not as good of an option for lightweight sleepers and can cause pressure build-up and discomfort, especially for those who sleep on their side. Heavyweight sleepers, as well as average weight back sleepers, will likely find the Allswell Luxe Hybrid an attractive choice, however.

Both beds offer strong edge support and the responsiveness most folks prefer for sex. Although the two mattresses share many similarities, the Allswell Luxe Hybrid feels more responsive and provides less pressure relief and motion isolation than the Beautyrest Hybrid.

Beautyrest Hybrid vs. Saatva

The Saatva Mattress is a luxury innerspring mattress rather than a hybrid. The Saatva feels quite different than the Beautyrest Hybrid and comes in multiple options. While the Beautyrest Hybrid rates a medium-firm, or 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, the Saatva is available in medium-soft (4), medium-firm (6), and firm (7.5). The Saatva could be a good choice for sleepers wanting a mattress that is softer or firmer than the Beautyrest Hybrid. The Saatva also comes in two profile options, unlike the Beautyrest Hybrid.

The Saatva Mattress feels more responsive than the Beautyrest Hybrid. Because of its innerspring construction, it is a bouncier mattress, and it works well for people who like to feel like they’re sleeping “on” rather than “in” the mattress. However, its coil-on-coil support system also transfers more motion than the Beautyrest Hybrid, which may be a concern for light sleepers who share a bed.

Beautyrest Hybrid vs. Casper Hybrid

Like the Beautyrest Hybrid, the Casper Hybrid Mattress is a high-profile hybrid mattress. The Casper Hybrid is slightly less firm than the Beautyrest Hybrid, coming in at a 5.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale. Lightweight sleepers who find the Beautyrest Hybrid too firm might prefer the Casper. Heavyweight sleepers who find the Casper too soft might prefer the Beautyrest Hybrid.

The Casper provides more of a conforming feel in which the memory foam layers “hug” the body, providing very good pressure relief as a result. One difference in construction between the two mattresses lies in the Casper’s zoned transitional layer. This layer provides targeted cushioning for areas like the shoulders, while providing support for the hips, where most people carry the majority of their weight.
